Cuesta Roundup: Cougars down Oxnard in baseball

Catcher Parker Hindle tallied four hits to help the Cuesta College baseball team to an 11-2 win over Oxnard in a Western State Conference game Thursday.

Hindle went 4 for 5 with three doubles and a career-high five RBI against Oxnard (10-11, 5-5 WSC). Spencer Ruggles went 2 for 5 for Cuesta, while both Steve Herting and Marco Murillo went 2 for 4. 

Starting pitcher Andrew Nelson pitched seven innings  for the win for Cuesta (11-15, 5-5 WSC). He gave up four hits, no runs, two walks and struck out nine. 

Cuesta splits with Moorpark in softball

The Cuesta softball team defeated Moorpark 5-2, but then fell 5-1 in the second game of a WSC doubleheader.

In the first game, Kryn Masutani hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and give the Cougars (16-18, 8-5 WSC) a four-run lead. 

The Cougars held on to that advantage as Christina Corsaletti closed out the game, pitching four scoreless innings.

Masutani went 2 for 3 with five RBI, while Moorpark’s Nicole Checkie went 3 for 4 with three singles and an RBI.

Masutani then pushed the Cougars’ only run across in the first inning of the second game. She finished 1 for 3 with an RBI.
