Cambria power outage caused by equipment failure

UPDATE 10 a.m. Friday: Power was restored to about 300 PG&E customers in Cambria late Thursday night after an equipment failure caused a roughly three-hour blackout, company spokesman Blair Jones said Friday morning.

At 8:12 p.m. Thursday, 309 Cambria customers lost their electricity.

About an hour later, service was restored to “most customers” while the final batch of customers got power back at 11:40 p.m., he said.

According to Bert Etling, editor of The Cambrian, power was restored in his Pine Knolls neighborhood at 10:24 p.m., after being out for almost 2.5 hours.

Original story: Power to 309 Cambria customers went out about 8:12 p.m. Thursday night, affecting an area that includes a substantial swath of the downtown business section.

A PG&E media representative said a three-man repair crew was on scene by 8:50 p.m., and fire crews were standing by what was said to be a downed power line in the 2300 block of Main Street, according to the utility's outage report.

In the strange configuration that is Cambria's downtown power grid, some businesses still had power in East Village, while others did not. Some residential neighborhoods also were affected.
