A 59-year-old Paso Robles man received major injuries Wednesday when he crashed his 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle into a car in Santa Maria.

The accident took place at 11:09 a.m. when the unnamed Paso Robles man was exiting a gas station and trying to make left turn onto Betteravia Road. According to a California Highway Patrol news release, the motorcycle he was driving struck the passenger side of a 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was traveling east on Betteravia Road.

The driver of the car, a 23-year-old Santa Maria woman, unsuccessfully tried to avoid the motorcycle. The driver and her two passengers, a 45-year-old Santa Maria woman and a 21-year-old Santa Maria man, were uninjured in the accident.

The Paso Robles man was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and transferred to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by CalStar for further treatment. The landing of the CalStar helicopter delayed traffic for about 10 minutes.
