The Cuesta College softball team and Ventura entered the Western State Conference doubleheader tied atop the league standings, however the Cougars were swept on Thursday, losing 4-2 and 9-4.

Cuesta’s record fell to 13-16 on the season.

The Cougars took an early lead in the first game, but Ventura came back to take the lead in the fifth inning. Cuesta’s Celine Blanco (6-8) went the distance in the loss, while Courteney Bragg went 2 for 4 and Christina Corsaletti was 2 for 3 for the Cougars.

In the second game, the Pirates led 3-1 when a Kryn Masutani triple drove in two runs to tie the game in the fifth inning. Masutani scored on a Summer Best double to give the Cougars a 4-3 lead.

The Cougars’ lead was short-lived however, as Ventura took advantage of a pair of Cuesta errors to score six runs in the sixth inning and closed out the sweep.

Four Cougars had a pair of hits led by Masutani (2-4), who had two triples and two RBI.
