Letter to the Editor

Los OsosMarch 28, 2013

Sheriff Ian Parkinson’s letter to Vice President Joe Biden said that he would not enforce gun control legislation that will not solve or prevent tragedy. He does not believe that passing more gun laws is the solution to this problem.

Regardless of his personal beliefs, he has the responsibility to enforce the laws enacted by the legislative branches of our government to further restrict gun ownership.

I believe, as stated by the D.C. Circuit Court, that stricter firearms registration procedures, the prohibition on assault weapons and the prohibition on large capacity ammunition feeding devices do not violate the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

If legislation is passed to control guns better, I expect our elected sheriff to enforce this legislation. Does he want the general public to be more heavily armed than our Sheriff’s Office?
