SLO makes quick work of Santa Maria in softball doubleheader sweep

Also, Tigers diver Blake Griffith wins meet with a CIF-automatic qualifying point total

The San Luis Obispo High softball team defeated Santa Maria 10-0 and 11-1 in a doubleheader at home Saturday.

Each game ended after five innings.

Andrea Reynolds (7-2) was 2 for 3 with four RBI and pitched five innings, striking out nine for the Tigers in the opener.

San Luis Obispo’s Hailey Rich was 1 for 3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.

Claire Gilmore (1-0) pitched the second game to earn the win. Reynolds was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI, Lauren Guaspari was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBI, and Megan Williams was 2 for 3 with a double and a run.

Samantha Good was 3 for 5 with four RBI between the two games for the Tigers (9-3).

Avalon 19, Mission Prep 5, Avalon 16, Mission Prep 4

The Royals dropped a pair of games on Catalina Island over the weekend.

Kiana Harris went 2 for 3 with two RBI for Mission Prep (0-8) on Saturday.

In Friday’s game, Harris was 2 for 3 with two RBI, and Tess Boehm was 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI.

Coast Union 28, Maricopa 0; 5 innings

Ellie Magnuson pitched five innings with 11 strikeouts, no hits and one walk as she led the Broncos to a home victory.

Coast Union’s Cristina Plasencia went 3 for 5, with a three-run home run in the second inning and a two-run home run in the fourth, and finished with six RBI.

Janelle Bohey was 4 for 4 with a home run and four RBI, while Bailey Clarke was 3 for 3 with four RBI for the Broncos (5-3, 3-0 Coast Valley League).

BASEBALL St. Joseph 11, Mission Prep 4

Royals pitchers walked seven batters in their road loss.

Michael Cardwell was 2 for 2 with a double and two runs scored, and Joey Hall was 3 for 4 for Mission Prep.

DIVING

San Luis Obispo Diving Preview

Blake Griffith won with a CIF automatic-qualifying 404.25 points for the San Luis Obispo boys.

Will Mura took second for Morro Bay with 340.9 points, and Joey Milbrandt of Arroyo Grande placed third (300.6).

On the girls’ side, Tiana Pasko of Orcutt Academy won with 340.3 points. Morro Bay’s Brooke Molnar placed second (305.55), and Jamie Stapf of San Luis Obispo finished third (299.1).

TRACK & FIELD

Atascadero Invitational

Angelica Cusworth won the girls 100-meter dash, in 13.14 seconds, and the 300 hurdles (45.81) for the Greyhounds.

Robert Hixson won the boys 400 (50.54) for Atascadero.

San Luis Obispo’s Nate Greenelsh won the 100 (11.65), William Ernst won the 3,200 (9:37.1), and Connor Hall won the pole vault at 15 feet, 6 inches.

Alex Dalley won the girls long jump (16-4) and the 100 hurdles (17.19), while teammate Grace Torres won the triple jump (35-4) for the Tigers.

Madison Moore of Paso Robles won the girls 400 (1:01.1) and the 800 (2:30.1), while teammate Ashley Davis won the 3,200 (11:23.8).

Aiden Farrell won the boys 1,600 (4:33.3) for the Bearcats.

Matt Willkomm won the boys high jump at 6-0 for Arroyo Grande. Elijah Holt won the 110 hurdles (14.56), and Sean St. Denis won the 200 (23.55) for the Eagles. Arroyo Grande’s Christine Moreno won the girls 200 (26.78) and was joined by teammates Demi Wack, Nicole Pitman, Kina Lang to win the girls 1,600 relay (4:05.99).

Paige Waymire won the girls high jump for Nipomo at 5-2.

Templeton’s Tyler Murphee won the boys long jump (20-4) and triple jump (40-5).

Paso Robles, Arroyo Grande at Santa Barbara Easter Relays

Jonah Cole placed second for the Bearcats in the discus with a distance of 146-11. Paso Robles’ Ben Nagengast took third in the same event at 143-10.

Elizabeth Heyde, Jocelyn Reynolds, Angela Gemignani, and Jade Fuller won the 3,200 relay (9:43) for Arroyo Grande.
