Latino council plans immigration forum in SLO

The Latino Outreach Council has drawn together a group of experts who will talk about immigration at an open forum Wednesday in San Luis Obispo.

Panelists will include:

• Joseph Castro, grandson of farmworkers, president of the county Child Abuse Prevention Council, and vice president of the National Migrant Head Start Association.

• Ruth Jensen of the United Agribusiness League.

• Maricela Morales, deputy director of the Central Coast Alliance for a Sustainable Economy.

• Kevin Gregg, a local attorney specializing in immigration law.

Attorney Jacqueline del Valle Frederick will moderate.

The panel will define the current immigration system, explore the interplay of law enforcement and illegal immigrants, delineate the local and national economic impacts of illegal immigration and examine the effects of illegal immigration on children.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors chambers at the County Government Center, 1055 Monterey St. in San Luis Obispo.
