Cal Poly designated hitter Brian Mundell has been named the Big West Conference Field Player of the Week after hitting a pair of game-winning home runs for the Mustangs.

The Valencia High graduate hit a walk-off shot in the 10th inning of Cal Poly’s 6-5 victory over visiting San Jose State on March 12, and then hit the game-winning, three-run home run in a 6-3 victory over then-No. 17 Notre Dame on Thursday.

For the week, Mundell was 8 for 16 at the plate with two doubles, two home runs, four runs scored and four RBI as Cal Poly went 2-2.

Mundell has hit five home runs this year, good for fourth all-time by a freshman in the school’s Division I history, and has hit safely in seven of the last eight games for the Mustangs.
