Three speed-crazed car buffs take the Central Coast by storm in an upcoming episode of Top Gear on the History channel.
In the episode Mammoth Mountain, slated to air Tuesday night, the television shows three hosts comedian Adam Ferrara, champion rally and drift racer Tanner Foust and racing analyst Rutledge Wood embark on a mission to discover the best SUV in the country.
The men meet in Pismo Beach, then set out on an epic journey from the coast to the Sierra Mountains.
Along the way, the hosts stop by Santa Margarita Ranch to participate in an SUV drag race on the ranchs 3,200-foot private airstrip and test the vehicles four-wheel drive capabilities on a muddy hillside.
According to ranch headquarters manager Destini Cavalleto, the Top Gear cast and crew filmed the Santa Margarita Ranch segment on Dec. 2 during a torrential downpour.
It was hands down the rainiest day we had all winter. It poured the entire day, Cavalletto said in a news release. They just loved it.
Top Gear, which premiered in 2010, is based on the popular BBC series of the same name. The show airs at 9 p.m. Tuesdays on History, which is Charter channel 31.
