In order to understand CSU Chancellor Timothy White’s pending decision to force Cal Poly to convert to semesters, one must understand the enormous pressure he faces and the difficult position in which he finds himself.

The CSU, including Cal Poly, faces enormous challenges and serious problems. In order to avoid addressing them, Chancellor White must invent problems that do not need to be solved and fix things that are not broken. Otherwise he might be held accountable for dealing with the real problems faced by the colleges and universities over which he presides.
