Cal Poly splits softball doubleheader in Bakersfield

The Cal Poly softball team split a nonconference doubleheader at Bakersfield, losing to the Roadrunners 4-3 in the first game and winning the second game 2-0 on Sunday.

In the first game, the Roadrunners (3-16) jumped out to a 3-0 lead off Cal Poly starter Chloe Wurst.

The Mustangs (9-18-1) cut into a 4-1 deficit with two runs in the top of the seventh but the rally ended on a groundout.

Wurst (6-7) allowed four runs but matched her career high with seven strikeouts.

In the second game, Jillian Anderson hit a two-run single with the bases loaded in the second inning for the only runs of the game.

Jordan Yates (2-7) tossed a shut out, allowing four hits and one walk for Cal Poly.

Anderson went 3 for 6 with three RBI over the two games. Kim Westlund had two hits and an RBI, and Ashley Romano added a triple and an RBI for Cal Poly.
