Cuesta College baseball team loses to Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara starting pitcher Tyler Gilbert (4-1) held Cuesta College to one hit and one earned run over six innings to lead the Vaqueros to a 3-1 baseball win Saturday in San Luis Obispo.

Cougars catcher Parker Hindle was 2 for 4 for Cuesta’s only hits, and center fielder Steve Herting had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to knock in the Cougars’ only run.

Santa Barbara had nine hits, all singles.

Center fielder Taylor Colby was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and left fielder Anthony Simon was 2 for 5 with a run scored.

Santa Barbara scored once in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Stephen Foote gave up one hit with three strikeouts and no walks over the last three innings for his second save.

Cuesta starting pitcher Lucas Martin (3-3) gave up eight hits and three runs — two earned — in 72⁄3 innings with six strikeouts and one walk.
