Like the Bronco baseball team, the Coast Union High School softball team has traditionally had a rough go of it in the early season before the Coast Valley League begins.

In losing its first two games — against Templeton and Nipomo — the Lady Broncos have managed just a single run; that was scored by Patty Bucio against Nipomo on Friday, March 1, when she slid in to home plate safely in the third inning.

Interestingly, in 2012 the Lady Broncos also lost their first two games to Templeton and Nipomo but went on to rack up an impressive 11-1 record in the Coast Valley League, tying North County Christian for the league title.

Coast Union had a break-out game Tuesday, March 5, dominating Mission Prep 17-2. Sage Radecki belted a three-run home run, Patty Bucio went two-for-three at the plate and Ellie Magnuson struck out seven batters and gave up just two hits in four shutout innings for the win.The next home game for the Lady Broncos is at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, against Santa Maria. Coast Union opens the Coast Valley League season at home, entertaining Coastal Christian at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 15.
