A former director of Caltrans’ Central Coast district has joined Omni-Means Engineers & Planners Ltd., a 32-year-old firm specializing in transportation systems design.

Richard Krumholz of San Luis Obispo will serve as Omni-Means’ transportation manager for the Central Coast. The company has offices in Roseville, Redding, Visalia, San Luis Obispo and Walnut Creek.

Krumholz began work with Caltrans in 1979 and advanced to director of District 5, which covers five Central Coast counties from Santa Barbara north to Santa Cruz.

At the time of his retirement from Caltrans in 2012, District 5 had a record $450 million worth of capital projects under construction, including the widening of Highway 46 in San Luis Obispo County and the widening of the Santa Maria River Bridge connecting Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, according to a news release.

“We chose Richard for his proven track record of effectively managing people and projects and his ability to work collaboratively with public agencies and private parties to successfully deliver complex transportation projects,” said Omni-Means President H. 

Omni-Means has a special emphasis on roundabout planning and design. The company also provides civil engineering, traffic engineering, transportation planning, landscape architecture, land surveying and construction management.
