Cal Poly Roundup: Three Cal Poly swimmers earn NCAA provisional times

Three Cal Poly men's swimmers earned provisional cutoff times for the NCAA Championships on the third day of the Pac-12 Championships on Tuesday at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

Mackey Hopen finished highest for Cal Poly, placing 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 54.28 seconds, just under the 

provisional-qualifying time of 55.39. The sophomore, who broke his own school record in the event, earned five points in the team standings.

Jimmy Deiparine met the cutoff in the same race, finishing 14th in 54.63 to pick up three points.

In the 400 IM, Cal Poly sophomore Paolo Stanchi swam under the provisional-qualifying time of 3:54.49, finishing in 18th place at 3:51.91.

Heading into the final day of Pac-12 competition, Cal Poly is in eighth place with 74 points. No. 2 Cal, looking to win its third national title in a row, leads with 583 points.


Cal Poly at Fresno State Lexus Classic

Cole Nygren finished tied for 24th, and the Mustangs settled for 15th place following the final round of play at the Belmont Country Club.

Nygren hit a final-round, 2-over 74 to finish at an even-par 216, which was good for a tie for 24th place.

Cal posted a 43-under-par 1,037 total to capture the team title. Cal Poly finished at 1,114.
