Relay team posts best finish among Mustangs in finals at Pac-12 Championships

The Cal Poly men’s swimming team reached the finals in four events at the Pac-12 Championships on Monday at Federal Way, Wash.

Cal Poly’s 200 free relay team of Mackey Hopen, McKinnon, Omar Dwidar and Jimmy Deiparine finished eighth at 1:22.

Aaron McKinnon finished 21st in the 50 freestyle for the Mustangs in 20.32 seconds — three-hundredths of a second shy of matching the school record.

In the 500-yard freestyle, Sonny Fierro finished in 20th place with a time of 4 minutes, 29.54 seconds, and teammate Konrad Antoniuk also swam in the finals, placing 23rd at 4:33.08.

In the 200 IM, Mickey Mackle finished 22nd at 1:49.57.

After the second day of the four-day meet, the Mustangs are in eighth place, with 66 points. Cal, the back-to-back defending national champion, is in first place with 298.5 points.

The meet continues through Wednesday.
