The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival has announced the winner of this year's King Vidor Award.

Actor John Hawkes was nominated for an Academy Award for his menacing performance as a backwoods meth dealer in 2010's "Winter's Bone." He's also won acclaim for his roles as a cult leader in 2011's "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and a polio-stricken poet in 2012's "The Sessions."

The King Vidor Career Achievement Award honors excellence in filmmaking. It's named after King Vidor, the prolific director of "The Crowd" and "War and Peace."
