This year's Taste of San Luis event has been canceled

The San Luis Obispo Downtown Association has canceled the annual Taste of San Luis event after 20 years because of declining revenue and increasing costs.

The event, launched in 1993, was billed as an elegant evening of food, wine and music. It was held in Mission Plaza each year as a way to showcase the downtown and to raise money for the Downtown Association’s promotion and design programs.

The board of directors of the San Luis Obispo Downtown Association decided to take a hiatus from the event this year and will decide in spring if it will replace the event or reconfigure it. A growing number of food and wine events locally, including Sunset magazine's Savor the Central Coast, may have led to its decline.

Executive Director Deborah Cash said that analyzing the event's fiscal performance made it clear it was time to rethink the event.

“Stepping back for now made the most sense,” Cash said.
