Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo swimmers have strong start to season

The San Luis Obispo High boys and girls swim teams opened their seasons with big wins over visiting Morro Bay on Wednesday, winning every race in both meets.

The Tigers boys won 222-81, and the San Luis Obispo girls won 226-83.

Tyler Andree led the way for the San Luis Obispo boys, winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 4.51 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.82, while also swimming on the winning 200 medley relay team with Nolan Morgan, Graham Johnson and Ryley Washbish.

Morgan earned a CIF-postseason automatic qualifying time in the 200 freestyle, winning in 1:45.12.

Freshman Blake Griffith won the boys 1-meter diving with a score of 183.90 points.

Teagan Griffith led the San Luis Obispo girls, winning the 50 freestyle (26.04 seconds) and the 200 freestyle (2:03.48).

Jesse Magliara won the 500 freestyle (5:54.1) and the 100 backstroke (1:12.49), and Jamie 

Staph won the 1-meter diving with a score of 154.2 points for the Tigers girls.

BOYS: Paso Robles 124, Nipomo 61;

GIRLS: Paso Robles 129, Nipomo 36

Zoe Zepp won the girls 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly, Erike Smeltzer won the girls 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, and the Bearcats swept all three relays in the season-opening win for both teams.

Amanda Gritzfeld won the girls diving, and Grant Britton won the boys diving for Paso Robles.


San Luis Obispo 13, Cate 5

Mason Hansen and Nick Johnson swept their singles matches to lift the Tigers (2-0) to the road win.

The doubles team of Josh Milla and Scott Hicks swept 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) for San Luis Obispo.
