Retired teacher and principal Jean Hoffmann has been provisionally appointed to the San Miguel school board to fill the term of board member John Green.
Green resigned when his election to the San Miguel Community Services District Board in November created a conflict of interest. Hoffmann will serve until the November 2014 election.

Help make San Miguel beautiful
Saturday from 8 to 11:30 a.m. is Cleanup (streets and alleys) and downtown Garden Day. If you can help, it is fun to connect with friends and neighbors in a common cause. To work in the sidewalk flowerbeds, meet at either 14th or 12th Street with tools and gloves. All the plots have not yet been adopted. The volunteer firemen have a large dumpster at the firehouse and they greatly appreciate donations for dumping large items.
Kindergarten orientations coming up
Cappy Culver School, 11011 Heritage Ranch Loop Road, will hold a transitional kindergarten orientation and kindergarten orientation March 6 at 1:30 p.m. in the school's multipurpose room. For information call Lori at 227-9120.
Grant money will fix sidewalks
SLO County has received a grant to fill in the missing portions of Mission Street sidewalks from 11th Street to Fr. Reginald Park next to Mission San Miguel. The initial survey is in progress. Also included in the grant are welcome signs at each of the three entrances to the town.
