Splash Café is planning to open a new restaurant in San Luis Obispo.

Joanne Currie, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband, Ross Currie, said she’s thrilled by the prospect of opening another location. The restaurant, which will be called Splash Café Seafood and Grill, plans to move into the space formerly occupied by Mondeos, which closed in January after 17 years in business.

The restaurant will serve all of the favorites Splash Café is known for, including the signature clam chowder, pastries and other artisan baked goods, Currie said. But it will also have a slightly different menu, with more emphasis on grilled foods and less on the fryer, she said. As well, the restaurant will be open for “quick breakfast,” she said.

“We’re super excited about this opportunity,” said Currie, noting they pursued the new location after the Mondeos space became available. “We just really feel that it’s an awesome space, near the Barnes & Noble, and the Starbucks is there. “

Splash Café Seafood and Grill will likely not open until the end of April, said Currie.

“We’re going to be doing some remodeling; the space will be getting a facelift,” she said. “It will have lots of bright colors and will definitely look like Splash.”

The first Splash Café restaurant opened on Pomeroy Avenue in Pismo Beach in 1989. In 2005, Splash added an uptown San Luis Obispo location on Monterey Street.

“Now, we’ll be downtown, too,” Currie said.
