Victor Davis Hanson brings the tax discussion to a frivolous level in “Gilded class warriors” (Feb. 21). Does he think only Republicans should play golf and go skiing? Seriously, Barack Obama’s idea of taxing 1-percenters at a higher rate doesn’t mean that people who can spend money on expensive items shouldn’t do so.

Go ahead, circulate the wealth. With higher tax rates the wealthiest will still be able to enjoy the good life and to accumulate wealth. Remember, the higher rates are only for that portion of their income that is really high.

Hanson’s examples of misdeeds and tax loopholes only confirm that fair tax laws (and the money to enforce them) are necessary. Anyone who knows more than one person also knows that we are not all equally inclined to share. Can we all agree that we need a tax code that supports our national values and gives hope and opportunity to all our citizens?
