Cal Poly swimmers start in relays

The Cal Poly women’s swimming team opened the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship competing in two relays at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park.

The Mustangs ended the first day of the four-day championships in a seventh-place tie with Loyola Marymount with 48 points. Following the first two events, UC Davis is in first with 74 points, followed by UC Santa Barbara (72), Hawaii (64), defending MPSF champion BYU (60), San Diego (54) and Pacific (52).

Cal Poly placed sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7 minutes, 24.27 seconds with the team of Alisha Bender, Jillian Jones, Katrina Anderson and Andrea Voigt.

UC Davis won with a meet-record time of 7:14.45. 

Earlier, Allison de Peralta, Angie Haven, Rachel O’Brien and Rachel Cleak finished eighth in the 200 medley relay in 1:43.11 for Cal Poly.  

Swimming competition resumes this morning and continues through Saturday night.
