Cambria wine and gift shop moving to new spot in East Village

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said Dana Nelson’s HealthPlus Pharmacy in San Luis Obispo had closed. HealthPlus Pharmacy sold its retail pharmacy business to Rite Aid but continues to offer compounding and hospice prescription services.

Fermentations, a wine, wine accessory, gourmet food and gift store in Cambria, will move from Burton Drive to Main Street by early April, according to owner Erik Fredrickson. Both sites are in the East Village.

“We’ll have the same business model with twice the square footage and better visibility,” Fredrickson said.

The move will allow him to expand the store’s offerings and provide more space for wine tasting and sales. Indoor seating is part of the plan, too. Fredrickson also sells picnic baskets and home accessories.

A significant portion of Fermentations’ sales are online at

Leslie Gainer opened Fermentations at 4056 Burton Drive in 1995 and still owns the building.

The new site is at 2306 Main St., where Cambria Village Pharmacy abruptly closed its doors June 16. The space, a total of 2,364 square feet, was advertised for a total of $3,750 a month as two separate units in September. The building is owned by San Luis Obispo attorney Michael Krout.

The shop at the corner of Main and Bridge streets had been a drugstore since the 1940s. George Keenan bought the drugstore in 1979, after he’d worked there for nearly a decade. In 1996, he sold the business to Dana Nelson of HealthPlus Pharmacy in San Luis Obispo.
