Lauren Cumbess did it all for the No. 24 Kentucky in a 1-0 softball win over Cal Poly on Thursday at the Campbell/Cartier Classic, hosted by San Diego State.
Cumbess (1-0) threw a complete game shutout with four hits allowed, one walk, seven strikeouts and hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for the game’s only run.
Cumbess finished 2 for 3, and Kara Dill was also 2 for 3 for Kentucky (5-2).
Jordan Yates (1-4) held Kentucky to five hits and one walk, but gave up the costly shot to Cumbess. Yates also had four strikeouts.
First baseman Breana West was 2 for 3 for Cal Poly (1-5) finished with multiple hits, going 2 for 3.
