Cuesta Roundup: Cuesta baseball team falls to Porterville

The Cuesta College baseball team fell to Porterville College 8-5 on Thursday after Porterville exploded for six runs in the final three innings.

Porterville (3-2) second baseman James Bingaman went 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored, and first baseman James Lopez had a two-out, two-run go-ahead double in the seventh inning. He finished 1 for 4 and had a sacrifice fly. 

Tyler Czech (2-0) pitched four innings of relief and gave up two earned runs on two walks and three hits to earn the win.

After falling behind 6-3 after the seventh, Cuesta scored twice in the bottom of the eighth, but the Cougars (3-4) gave the runs back in the top of the ninth.

Right fielder Travis Beck was 2 for 3 with a walk, and Franklin Myles had a pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth to lead Cuesta. 

Marco Murillo (0-2) was knocked out of the seventh after Lopez’s double. He went 62⁄3 innings, allowing, eight hits, six earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts.

SOFTBALL

College of Sequoias Tournament

Cuesta College lost to College of Sequoias 5-4 despite leading for four innings.

Jenna Medina was 2 for 2 with two RBI, and Jasmine Singh was 2 for 4 for the Cougars (7-7). Pitcher Celine Blanco had one strikeout. 

Cuesta beat Cosumnes River College 8-1 in the second game. 

Laura Gorman was 1 for 3 with two RBI. Christina Corsaletti was 1 for 3, and Summer Best was 2 for 2.
