Prep Girls Basketball Playoffs: Morro Bay wins easily against St. Mary's Academy

Sierra Schwellenbach had 18 points, eight steals, and six rebounds, as Morro Bay High's girls baskeball rolled over St. Mary’s Academy 58-12 on Thursday in the first round of the Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs.

The Pirates (21-3), who went undefeated in the Los Padres League for the second straight season, led 36-1 at halftime before easing up after the break. 

Hannah Gilbert had 18 points and six rebounds, and Caitlyn Cowardin had six points for Morro Bay, which moves to Saturday’s second round.

Bishop Montgomery 78, Templeton 45

Mari Stewart led the Eagles with 21 points and 16 rebounds in their Division 4AA loss against seventh-seeded Bishop Montgomery. 

Marissa Torres scored eight points, and Briana Belmonte had seven points for Templeton (21-5). 

Oaks Christian 84, Nipomo 26

The Lions (19-6), who are ranked No. 22 overall in the state, ended the Titans’ season in the Division 4AA playoffs on the road.

Tess Lattimer was Nipomo’s (15-12) leading scorer with six points.

Price 47, Coastal Christian 30

Amy Arnold had 14 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks but Coastal Christian fell in the Division 6 playoffs on the road.

Roni Garrison had 12 points, 17 rebounds and two assists, steals and blocks for Coastal Christian (7-5). 

“We have everybody coming back next year,” Coastal Christian coach Ashley Palus said. “We are looking forward to coming back strong and to keep improving from where we are now.”
