Eagles net two goals late in second half after a scoreless first-half tie with Burbank

The Arroyo Grande High girls soccer team beat Burbank 2-0 Thursday in the opening round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs.

After a scoreless first half, Lupita Leon headed in the first goal for the Eagles (17-1-6) off an assist from Elizabeth Heyde. Jane Summers scored the second goal off a Leon assist.

Arroyo Grande coach Bob Wilson praised the performance of the Eagles’ defensive line, which shut down the Burbank offensive attack.

Goalie Sarah Doughty split time with Kendall Bowers, who had the lone save of the game for the Eagles. 

Arroyo Grande, the PAC 7 champions, will play the Los Altos-Pacifica winner in Tuesday’s second round. 

Crescenta Valley 1, San Luis Obispo 0

The Tigers finished the season 14-11 after the first round Division 3 playoff loss.

La Quinta 9, Nipomo 0

The Titans ended their season 12-9-2 after their loss in the opening round of the Division 5 playoffs.

The Titans were coming off a 4-2 win over La Cañada in Tuesday’s wild-card round.
