Atascadero, Mission Prep victorious in boys basketball playoff contests

Coast Union also wins in opening round

The Atascadero High boys basketball team rolled over visiting Bolsa Grande in a 79-45 win in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA playoffs Wednesday night.

Joe Johnson had 16 points to pace Atascadero (18-8), which used an 18-4 run over the second quarter to pull away.

Robbie Berwick had 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and Ryan O’Connell added 12 for the Greyhounds.

Atascadero advances to face the winner of the game between Arlington and Indio on Friday.

Mission Prep 80, Wildwood 44

Connor Woolpert scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Royals’ first-round win in the Division 5AA playoffs.

Quinton Adlesh added 15 points, and Andy Rowley had 10 points and nine assists for Mission Prep, which will face either Kern Valley or Webb at home Friday night in the second round.

Ian Stake had nine points, and Ben Covington added eight for the Royals, who had all 11 players score at least two points.

Coast Union 50, Villanova Prep 38

Quintin Raethke and Angel Avina scored 20 points apiece as the Broncos used an 11-2 run in the fourth quarter to pull away in their first-round win in the Division 5A playoffs.

Raethke added 10 rebounds, and Avina hit five of Coast Union’s eight 3-pointers. Gehrig Kniffen added four assists and six rebounds for the Broncos (17-10).

Nordoff 81, Morro Bay 40

Zach Smith had 13 points, and Luke Munds had 11 in the Pirates’ first-round loss in the Division 4A playoffs.

Morro Bay (10-16) trailed by seven at halftime before Nordoff pulled away.

Acaciawood 63, Shandon 46

Hector Rangel scored 27 points, and Jesus Reyes added 13 for the Outlaws (9-10) in their home loss. 

The Golden Eagles’ Andrew Snieder had a game-high 32 points. 

Calvary Baptist 53, North County Christian 26

Nolan Cannon had 12 points and10 rebounds for the Crusaders as they fell to the Cougars in the Division 6 playoffs. 

Nathan Cedillo added eight points and 10 rebounds for North County Christian (5-14).
