Small plane loses power, makes emergency landing near Templeton

Published: February 11, 2013

The pilot of an experimental aircraft had to make an emergency landing Monday afternoon near Templeton after losing engine power, a spokesman for the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office said.

According to Sheriff's Office spokesman Tony Cipolla, the man received only minor injuries when his plane glided to the ground near Volpi Ysabel Road around 4:15 p.m. He was the only occupant of the fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft, Cipolla said.

Cipolla said a CHP aircraft in the area spotted the emergency landing and notified the Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene at approximately 4:35 p.m.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the exact cause of the crash. Cipolla did not know the extent of the damage to the aircraft.

Cal Fire/County Fire also responded to the incident.
