The Cal Poly softball team gave up a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and lost for the fourth time at the Kajikawa Classic, falling 3-2 to San Jose State on Sunday in Tempe.
Cal Poly (1-4) scored twice in the top of the first inning on RBI singles from Kim Westlund and Whitley Gerhart but the Spartans (4-1) tied the score in the bottom half off Mustangs starter Jordan Yates.
The Spartans scored the game-winner on an RBI single by Nicole Schultz in the bottom of the sixth.
Yates (1-3) allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks and did not record a strikeout.
Amanda Pridmore (3-1) struck out four in 2 1⁄3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for the Spartans.
Westlund went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
