I understand Judy Kingma’s concern of traffic at the Bishop’s Peak/Teach campus. However, to think it is due to Teach students being driven to school is just not true.
Most of the Teach students come from the Bishop’s Peak campus, not other elementary schools, and the plain fact is that Bishop’s Peak enrollment has skyrocketed in the past couple years. Bishop’s Peak is at/near 100 percent capacity due to open enrollment allowed at Bishop’s Peak by the district. If that was discontinued, a sizeable drop in enrollment and traffic would occur.
In the meantime, many of us Teach parents are doing what we can. I am part of a four-student carpool, for example.
A seemingly easy solution would be 10-minute, stagger-in school start times. Say Bishop’s Peak at 8:20 a.m., and Teach at 8:30 a.m.. Those 10 minutes would substantially reduce traffic congestion. By the way, go by Sinsheimer Elementary at 8:15 a.m., and you will see Augusta backed up bumper-to-bumper as well.
