Time to help plan San Miguel's Sagebrush Days

Special to The TribuneFebruary 6, 2013

A meeting to plan this year's Sagebrush Days event will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the San Miguel Mercantile downtown. Everyone is welcome. Ideas are on the agenda. For information, call Mike Sanders at 712-9120.

For prospective kindergarteners

Children whose fifth birthday occurs on or before Oct. 1 will be ready to start kindergarten in August. If your child will be 5 years old between Oct. 2, 2013, and Feb. 5, 2014, transitional kindergarten may be an option. Kindergarten and transitional kindergarten orientations will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Lillian Larsen School, 1601 16th St., in the cafeteria. Two sessions are scheduled, one at 1:30 p.m. and another at 6:00 p.m. For more information, call Suzie Ortuzar at 805-467-3216 ext. 201 or email her at sortuzar@smjus.k12.ca.us.

Be a volunteer reader

Lillian Larsen School will participate in the annual National Educational Association's Read Across America Day on Friday, March 1. The event honors the birthday of prolific children's writer Dr. Seuss, whose most enduring character is The Cat in the Hat. A large selection of books is available for all ages, and it is great fun for both students and volunteer readers. Last year's readers included Supervisor Frank Mecham, KSBY-TV weatherman Dave Hovde and Sheriff Ian Parkinson. The school is signing up volunteer readers for this year. Call Jan Brown at 805-467-3216 ext. 2032 or email her at jbrown@smjus.k12.ca.us.
