Letter to the Editor

Innacurate label

Published: February 6, 2013

My children attend both Bishop’s Peak and Teach elementary schools, and I love them both dearly. Teach school has inaccurately been called “elitist” because of its accelerated learning program, and now it’s in danger of closing.

In actuality, Teach is a positive, fun, focused learning environment where kids can have an opportunity to delve deeper into subjects. Community action projects and hands on critical thinking activities are part of the program.

The love of learning shines in these kids; I see it daily. The teachers are inspirational and simply amazing. There’s no high-pressure agenda, and the homework is rich and interesting. My son has plenty of time for sports and playing.

I only wish the school board members could experience the inclusive, upbeat atmosphere at Teach. I encourage those who believe kids should have an option like this to please send a quick email to the San Luis Coastal Unified School District’s school board.
