Armed villagers

Published: February 6, 2013

A recent article reported that villagers in the small Mexican town of Ayutla had armed themselves to defend their community against the gangster cartels.

The heroic villagers were “armed with hunting rifles, old pistols and small bore shotguns.”

If all of their weapons had been confiscated by their government, how would they protect themselves?

Operation “Fast and Furious,” funded by our federal government, provided thousands of weapons, including AK-47s, to the Mexican drug cartels.

It seems that our dollars and energy would be better spent if we provided these villagers with modern weapons and training.

Bad people will never give up their guns. Should good people be at their mercy?
