Titans could tie for league title with win over Santa Ynez

Cristina Ozzimo had two goals, including the go-ahead goal in overtime, to lift the Nipomo High girls soccer team to a 3-2 victory over visiting Cabrillo on Tuesday.

The Titans (9-2 Los Padres League) move into a second-place tie with the Conquistadors (9-2 LPL). With a win against first-place Santa Ynez on Thursday, Nipomo could tie for the LPL title.

With the score tied at 1 at the end of the first overtime period, Ozzimo scored her second goal of the game on a free kick, and Kaitlyne Fernandez converted a penalty kick to put Nipomo up 3-1 and give the Titans the lead for good.

Cabrillo scored on a corner kick in the final minute of overtime to bring the score to 3-2, but the Conquistadors could not complete the comeback.

Yoeclyn Lopez had eight saves in goal for Nipomo.

Santa Ynez 3, Templeton 1

Lindsey Wyatt’s first-half penalty kick tied the score at 1 for the Eagles, but two straight goals by the Pirates gave Santa Ynez the road win.

Sara Albertini had four saves in goal, and Sammy Schmidt had two for Templeton (5-13-1, 4-7-1 LPL).

Lompoc 4, Morro Bay 1

The Pirates outshot the Braves 11-9 in the loss.

Elsa Ruiz scored for Morro Bay (3-18, 1-10 LPL) off an assist from Sadie Robbins, and Madelynn Martinez had five saves in goal for the Pirates.

Coast Union 1, Mission Prep 0

Maddy May scored the game’s only goal as Coast Union (10-7-1) snapped the Royals’ eight-game winning streak.

Gabby Bucio had 14 saves in goal for Coast Union (12-4-1).


Nipomo 1, Cabrillo 0

Efrain Navarro scored off an assist from Jonathon Gomez with five minutes remaining as the Titans (12-8-4, 6-3-2 LPL) moved into second place in the league standings.

Jason Alvarado had seven saves in goal for Nipomo.

Morro Bay 3, Lompoc 2

Holt Alden and Jackson Chavez each recorded one goal and one assist in leading the Pirates (13-8-2, 6-4-1 LPL) to the win.

Joel Wilkie added another goal, and Jeremy Nielson had 12 saves in goal for Morro Bay.

Santa Ynez 3, Templeton 0

Tyrus Yamagata had 11 saves in goal in the loss for the Eagles (2-14-2, 1-11 LPL).

Coast Union 1, Mission Prep 0

Alex Bautista scored the winning goal as the Broncos (8-3-7 LPL) shut out the Royals on the road.

Luis De Alba recorded the assist for Bautista, and Juan Leonardo had six saves in goal for Coast Union.


Shandon 51, Coastal Christian 42

Hector Rangel scored 31 points to lead the Outlaws past the visiting Conquerors.

Jesus Reyes added 12 points for Shandon (8-3 Coast Valley League).

Coast Union 40, Cuyama Valley 21

Angel Avina and Quinten Raethke scored 11 points apiece as the Broncos (14-10) beat the Bears.


Coast Union 46, Cuyama Valley 39

Roxy Mertens had 25 points and 19 rebounds in the road win for the Broncos (9-6, 8-2 CVL).

Kylie Culver and Crystal Nunez added six points apiece for Coast Union.

Megan Herrington had a team-high 11 points for Cuyama Valley.
