I’ll be asking the Pismo Beach City Council at its meeting Tuesday to deny the huge Spanish Springs project. Increasing the size of Pismo Beach by 43 percent isn’t needed at this time without adequate infrastructure already in place.
Already that stretch of Highway 101 in Pismo most mornings is congested with school and commuter traffic. Adding more cars in this area without widening the highway is a bad idea. Plus, there are no adequate roads or funds in place to allow this new traffic onto Price Canyon or James Way. And what studies could possibly show that adding an additional 8,000 cars a day from this development wouldn’t affect two-lane neighborhood road Highland Drive?
Many of us in Arroyo Grande drink the water in the aquifer under this proposed development. The plan is to use treated wastewater for irrigation. What prevents harmful chemicals from this water leaching into our water supply? Most of us moved to this area to get away from this type of urban sprawl. Most of us moved up here to get away from congested traffic and crowded areas.
This project will have a huge impact on the Five Cities area for all time.
