San Luis Obispo police arrested Matthew Martin, 21, around 2 a.m. Saturday after a witness says he broke several car windows near Johnson Avenue and Phillips Lane.

The man called 911 and followed Martin for several blocks before catching Martin and trying to detain him until authorities arrived.

Martin fled and was later caught by the citizen again near Bond Street and Hathway Avenue.

Martin was arrested and booked into County Jail on charged of felony vandalism and being drunk in public. The San Luis Obispo Police Department says he caused damages totaling about $3,000.
