Cuesta Roundup: Cougars open baseball season with loss

Orange Coast's Pirates Manny Argomaniz went 2 for 4 with three RBI to lead the Pirates to a 7-1 baseball win over Cuesta College on Friday in both teams’ season opener.

Evan Porcella was the winning pitcher after throwing five scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and two walks.

Cougars catcher Brandon Oliver went 2 for 5 and drove in Cuesta’s only run with a two-out single in the seventh inning. Zack Domingues reached base four times with a single and three walks. 

Andrew Nelson took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, and nine hits over six innings. 

SOFTBALL

Porterville 8, Cuesta 6; Cuesta 11, Porterville 2

Kryn Masuttani went a combined 5 for 5 with five RBI as the Cougars (3-3) split a doubleheader at home.

In the first game, Porterville took an 8-3 lead in the fourth inning and held on from there.

Masuttani was 3 for 3 with three RBI for Cuesta.

In the second game, Masuttani and Christina Corsaletti each hit a two-run home run, and Summer Best was 2 for 3 for the Cougars.
