My job in the ob/gyn department at UCSD Medical Center, prior to the legalization of pregnancy termination, provided firsthand experience of the need for all women to have safe and ready access to pregnancy termination.

To address the concerns of Mr. Dwayne Head in his Jan 31 letter: I never met a woman for whom the termination of a pregnancy was not given serious thought, often heartfelt prayers, and considerable effort and mustering of courage.

It seems typical of the most virulent critics of reproductive freedom that they are men and this choice is, in fact, not theirs to make.

I have some advice for Mr. Head: if you don’t favor abortion, don’t have one. Don’t allow your wife to have one, nor your daughter, daughter-in-law, granddaughter or niece — or any other female who allows you to control her life.
