Remodel not done

Published: February 1, 2013

This letter is in response to Jim Duenow’s irate comments in his Jan. 26 letter regarding the historic Barneberg House. I have much respect for Jim, who has consistently supported many progressive causes for this community.

With regard to his beloved ex-home/office, he omits two vital points:

• The proud new owner, the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation, needs to be seen as a community model for treating everyone equally, including access to the building’s majestic main entrance.

• At this point, the entry remodel is far from complete. The short walls flanking the new stairs and ramp, which maintain the classic symmetry, will be textured to complement the existing masonry. New landscaping will be added.

I believe that the completed project will enhance this beautiful structure as it adapts to reflect its new evolving community role as the 21st century home of the SLO County Community Foundation.
