Prep Roundup: Atascadero downs Paso Robles in boys basketball

Robbie Berwick had 23 points and four assists to lead the Atascadero High boys basketball team to a 64-46 victory over visiting Paso Robles on Wednesday night.

The Greyhounds led 16-7 after the first quarter and never looked back, cruising past the rival Bearcats.

Brady Youngquist had 10 points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds for Atascadero (13-8, 6-2 PAC 7), Jared Stuedemann had seven points and six rebounds and Ryan O’Connell had nine points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Jaylon Davis had 23 points, and Josh Wilson-Murry added 14 for Paso Robles (6-16, 2-7 PAC 7).

Arroyo Grande 77, Pioneer Valley 34

Matt Willkomm scored 16 first-half points and totaled 24 for the Eagles in their PAC 7 win.

Cobe Williams and Brennan Rivera added eight points apiece for Arroyo Grande (16-7, 5-4). 

Templeton 60,Morro Bay 37

Andy Garretson had 14 points and 17 rebounds, and the Eagles (12-9, 6-3 Los Padres League) held the Pirates to five first-quarter points as Templeton won its fifth consecutive game.

The Eagles held a 26-14 lead at halftime, then outscored Morro Bay 25-17 in the third quarter for a commanding 51-31 lead entering the final quarter.

Will Mehring had 12 points, and Jackson Wheeler had seven points and five assists for Templeton.

Zach Smith led Morro Bay with 11 points.


Atascadero 37, Paso Robles 36

Maddie Leong had 17 points, and Camille LeBlanc added nine, including the go-ahead basket with 30 seconds left, to give the Greyhounds the road win against the rival Bearcats (3-6 PAC 7).

Molly Donovan led Paso Robles with 23 points.

Pioneer Valley 55, Arroyo Grande 46

Alex Mero and Krista St. Denis scored 11 points apiece for the Eagles as they fell to the Panthers in Santa Maria.

Elizabeth Mero scored 10 points, and Ashlyn Herlihy added eight points and eight rebounds for Arroyo Grande (9-13, 2-7 PAC 7).


Arroyo Grande 2, Pioneer Valley 2, tie

Alexander Tseegai scored off an assist by Raul Munoz in the 77th minute for Arroyo Grande that tied the score at 2-2.

Brian Wright also scored a goal for Arroyo Grande, off an assist by Oscar Munoz, and Danny Montero had four saves in goal for the Eagles (13-7-2, 7-1-1 PAC 7).

Paso Robles 2, Atascadero 1

Juan Carlos Ruiz had four saves in goal for the Bearcats in their PAC 7 win.

Luis Reyes scored for Paso Robles (7-9-2, 3-6) off an assist by Rafael Roman, and Juan Pino scored off an assist from Johnny Rodriguez.


Paso Robles 3, Atascadero 1

Alyssa Harris, Emilee Brown and Renae Boggs scored goals for the Bearcats (12-7-2, 4-4-1) in their PAC 7 win.

Natalya Marcove had six saves in goal for Paso Robles.

Arroyo Grande 2, Pioneer Valley 0, OT

Mallory Flatebo scored twice in overtime, once off a corner kick from Elizabeth Heyde followed by a breakaway, unassisted goal after a steal to lift the 

Eagles (13-1-6, 7-1-1 PAC 7) to the home win.

Sarah Dowdy and Kendall Bowers combined for three saves in goal for Arroyo Grande.
