Cal Poly picked seventh in Big West Conference softball

The Cal Poly softball team was picked to finish seventh in the Big West Conference in the annual preseason coaches’ poll Tuesday.

The Mustangs, with 24 points, were picked ahead of UC Riverside (22) and Cal State Northridge (16).

Hawaii, ranked No. 23 in the USA Today preseason coaches poll, garnered four first-place votes and was selected to win the Big West.

Long Beach State finished second, three points behind Hawaii, with 73 points. Pacific received the last remaining first-place vote and finished third in the poll with 58 points.

UC Santa Barbara was fourth (52), UC Davis was fifth (51) and Cal State Fullerton (33) was sixth.
