Longtime downtown eatery Mondeos has closed, according to a sign posted to its door. The inexpensive, fusion-style favorite with homemade ginger ale was tucked in the Downtown Centre adjacent to Barnes & Noble.

The note reads: “After 17 years, Mondeos has closed its doors. We’d like to thank you for your years of loyal patronage & support. It was our pleasure to serve you. Please continue to support your local restaurants. Thank you- Mondeos staff.”

Public records list Mondeos’ owner as Rachel Weintraub. According to LinkedIn, she has owned the business since 2009.

According to Tribune archives, Mondeos was first opened as Mondeo Pronto by Northern California restauranteur Vince Burke.

The Mondeos location is owned by Copeland Properties, whose tenant coordinator was immediately unavailable for comment.
