A mea culpa

Published: January 27, 2013

There has been a great deal of emotion over the past few weeks regarding the proposed Homeless Services Center in the city of San Luis Obispo. In an email to local business owners several weeks ago, I regrettably made a statement about the intentions of Biz Steinberg relative to the neighborhood involvement in the approval process.

I wish to apologize to Biz and others who were offended, for that statement, and know it not to be correct or representative of her ideals or beliefs. Biz Steinberg has done so much good in our community and around the state of California on behalf of many in need and otherwise. I applaud her efforts and we, together, have opened a new dialogue that will be and has already been constructive in finding the right location for the Homeless Services Center.

The area residents, property owners and business owners are motivated to work with CAPSLO, the city and the county to find the right location and move forward with construction and providing needed services as soon as possible. I continue to believe that where there is a will, there is a way, to make it happen in the right location for all. I look forward to working productively with Biz and many others as we move ahead together.
