Chadwick leads five Cougars in double-figure scoring

Courtney Chadwick scored a game-high 22 points, and four other Cuesta College women’s basketball players scored in double figures Wednesday as the Cougars romped to an 89-42 Western State Conference home win over Allen Hancock.

Aria Johnson scored 19 points, Miriam Zabinski added 15, North County Christian graduate Amanda Legault had 14 and former Atascadero High standout Alyssa Palma poured in 11 for Cuesta (15-9, 3-1 WSCN).

Alyssa Lopez and Davina Valerio scored 13 apiece, but Hancock (4-16, 0-4 WSCN) was out of it almost from the start.

Bouncing back from a two-point loss at Santa Barbara City last weekend, Cuesta led 52-22 at the half and was 20 of 27 from the free-throw line for the game.

The Cougars, ranked 14th in the latest Southern California regional poll, are behind the first-place Vaqueros by just one game.

“It’s been a while since Cuesta’s been in this position,” Cougars head coach Ron Barba said, “but if you look at our box scores all year long, nobody’s really jumped out. We distribute the ball really well, we use all eight players really well and I think that makes us tough to play against.”
