The Nipomo Chamber of Commerce has named Sean Schuur, a mortgage broker, former chamber president and dedicated community volunteer, as its 2012 Citizen of the Year.
Schuur, founder of Sure Mortgage Solutions in Arroyo Grande, served as the Nipomo chambers president in 2008.
Hes also served as president of the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce; is an ambassador for the Arroyo Grande-Grover Beach chambers of commerce; and is involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County, Toys for Tots, Junior Achievement, the International Footprint Association, and Cuesta Crankers, a Model A club.
The joke is that if Sean isnt at a fundraiser in our area, it must be because theres a competing fundraiser somewhere else, said Nipomo chamber member Cees Dobbe, who nominated Schuur for the award.
Schuur is also a member of the Rotary Club of Pismo Beach-Five Cities, a member of New Life Community Church, serves as treasurer for the Community Health Centers Foundation, and is a member of the San Luis Obispo Association of Realtors and Pismo Coast Association of Realtors, which has named him affiliate of the year four times.
He was also named one of The Tribunes Top 20 Under 40 in 2005.
Dobbe described Schuur as the kind of guy who when he enters a room, its always about you, not about him.
Schuur was honored during the Nipomo chambers installation and awards dinner on Thursday.
It was truly a great honor, Schuur said Monday. I love Nipomo, and Im blessed to be part of it.
