A Santa Barbara County park employee found an abandoned panga boat on the shore at Goleta Beach on Friday morning containing a dozen life jackets and more than 15 fuel containers.
The discovery marks the first panga boat found in Santa Barbara County this year. Last year, there were more than 20 incidents in that county involving the motorized fishing craft, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
The park employee found the boat at 5:18 a.m. There was evidence of food and clothing in the 30-foot boat, but no evidence of drugs.
Sheriffs deputies responded and conducted an initial investigation, then turned the case over to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. No arrests have been made.
