I respectfully disagree with Sarah Christies opinion of the redistricting effort put forth by county staff.
The redistricting committee included the county administrator, county counsel, county recorder, county surveyor, assistant planning director and three staff from the geographic technology mapping section. Over the course of several weeks, more than 20 redistricting scenarios were generated and presented to individual board members.
The board chose three different redistricting scenarios for consideration, which were submitted for comment at four separate public meetings. I attended three of the four public meetings, and no one from the environmental community opposed any of the three scenarios.
In comparison to other counties in the state, by using county staff to prepare redistricting maps, taxpayers saved more than $100,000 as opposed to hiring professionals.
