Sharing frustration

AtascaderoJanuary 16, 2013

We were recently notified by Anthem Blue Cross of a health insurance premium rate increase. The increase is 18.2 percent, more than $150 higher than our current monthly premium, and is probably an attempt to cover expenses for uninsured individuals.

Regardless of Anthem’s rationale, we have sent letters to our state and federal representatives, and Mr. Dave Jones, California Insurance Commissioner, to elicit their assistance in initiating legislation to give Mr. Jones the authority to adjust rate increases to fairer level.

Although 37 other states can regulate insurance companies, California does not provide its commissioner with that power. We also enjoin other Anthem subscribers to contact their governmental representatives and share the frustration (and anger) we feel.

We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
